DAVE BARTHOLOMEW
Great booze tune, RnB Jump of it's best kind. Dave Bartholomew is best known as the inventor of the Big Beat; a producer, bandleader, songwriter, record label owner, singer, trumpeter, and talent scout whose literally seen, played and done it all. He made his first record for the Deluxe label, hitting it big with "Country Boy," and he continues to lead a big band to this day.
Joining forces with Fats Domino, Bartholomew helped create one of the first slabs of rock 'n' roll - "The Fat Man" - in 1949.
He then proceeded to write and produce a mind-altering number of hits for Fats, Lloyd Price, the Spiders, Smiley Lewis, Jewel King, Earl King, Shirley & Lee, Chris Kenner, Tommy Ridgely, Bobby Mitchell, Roy Brown and Sugar Boy Crawford, as well as countless others.
Cosimo's famed studio band, comprised of Earl Palmer on drums, Salvador Doucette or Edward Frank on piano, Ernest McLean on guitar, Frank Fields on bass, and Alvin "Red" Tyler, Herb Hardesty and Lee Allen on saxes, all blossomed from Bartholomew's group. Aside from all that, Dave is an accomplished singer and a fantastic trumpet player known far and wide for his ability to hold a note; hence the nickname "Old Leather Lungs."
Laying down a bushel of scorchin' sides himself, including "The Monkey Speaks His Mind," "Jump Children," "Who Drank My Beer While I Was In the Rear," "Would You," "Gert Town Blues" and "Ain't Gonna Do It," he also holds the honors of having cut one of the first ever Mardi Gras songs, the ground breaking "Carnival Day."
