between 1927 and 1943. These songs mostly are about murder, death and broken hearted-ness, offering lot's of intense minor chords and stark gritty vocals.

Adding electricity to the recording process round about 1925 allowed softer instruments that people had in their houses, like dulcimers, little guitars, or autoharps, to be picked up clearly. Ralph Peer, who worked for Columbia, Okeh and Victor, and was present at 4 or 5 of the most seminal recording sessions of the 1920s, was also the first guy to travel around with recording equipment from city to city.
He asked around for where to find people who played at home, and at the behest of Ernest Stoneman, went through the appalachian mountains, inviting folks he liked.
He set up his gear in Bristol, Tennessee in 1927. Both the Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers were among his guests, and it kicked off the entire industry of country music on 78.
